POSTPOSITIONS

“ Before going to the cinema “, “ down the road “, “ according to the news “ are English expressions using prepositions.

To say these expressions, we do not employ prepositions in Turkish.

Indeed, prepositions don’t exist. Postpositions replace them.

As their name suggest, postpositions appear after the word they depend on.

The word that precedes is in the absolute, the directive or ablative case.

“There is no preposition only postposition.”

  • Arkadaşlarımla* futbol oynuyorum - I play football with my friends.

  • Çocuklarım için endişeleniyorum - I am worried for my kids.

  • Kâbus gibi bir gün oldu - This day was like a nightmare.

  • Bu adam Einstein kadar akıllı - This man is as smart as Einstein.

  • Adam ölemek üzere - This man is about to die.

  • Bu gazeteye göre ekonomik durum daha da kötüleşecekmiş - According to this newspaper, the economic situation is going to get worse.

  • Bu iyileştirmelere rağmen hala memnun değilim - Despite these improvements I am still not satisfied.

  • Çocuk merdivenlerden aşağı indi - The child went down the stairs. to verıfy
